ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mike Shaw is the former Director of Education for the N.S.W. Ambulance Service, Australia. He was a member of the Services Executive Committee. Medical Advisory Committee and has served on Government Committees of Inquiry. He was a key figure in the introduction of stress management training, critical incident debriefing and a staff counselling program for the Services 2500 staff.
Since leaving the service Mike has focussed on alternative health and spiritual development. He has conducted teaching workshops around the world and has conducted Reiki seminars for the West Australian Cancer Council.
Mike has been a student of the mysteries of the universe since his near death out of body experience following a serious accident in 1966. As a result of his experience he has, over the past forty five years looked at the many philosophies and beliefs pertaining to the meaning of life and death. He has studied with Hawaiian, North American and Indonesian Shaman, teachers of spirituality and philosophy from around the world and authentic Reiki Masters.
This has resulted in Mike’s personal philosophy that we create what we want on the outside by changing ourselves on the inside.
Mike does not advocate giving up all your material possessions and going off to live in seclusion on top of a mountain. He says that change can be brought about by following some very simple principles relating to how you think, how you speak and how you act and by learning about Dimensional Reiki.
Mike believes very much in the oneness theory referred to by scientists as non-locality. Once people can understand and accept the idea that everything we can see, touch or feel is part of the whole. Then it becomes so much easier to achieve inner peace and to change your life.
He has been a Reiki practitioner for over thirty five years and has treated hundreds of people across the whole spectrum of medical, emotional and stress related problems.
Mike has been a Master/Teacher of Reiki for thirty years during which time he has taught doctors, nurses, scientists and people from all backgrounds, cultures and religions.
Mike is the author of “When Cancer Strikes”, “Reiki and Cancer”, "From Dr Usui to Dimensional Reiki" co author with wife Mary of “For the Love of Reiki and Isis Seichim”. He has been featured in newspaper and magazine articles as well as having written many of his own. He has also been a guest on a number of talk back radio programmes.

SO WHAT IS REIKI?
My own personal introduction to Reiki came about through my wife Mary back in 1984. Over a period of a few weeks I had become aware of a magazine that seemed to always just be lying around somewhere. The magazine was always opened at an advertisement for a Reiki seminar. One day she informed me that she would be attending a Reiki seminar over the coming weekend. I asked her what exactly is Reiki and she replied that it was a form of hands on healing. I said ok and left it at that.
When she returned home on the Friday evening after the first part of the seminar she was on a high and could not stop talking about Reiki and this amazing lady called Beth Gray. By Saturday evening her excitement had doubled and by Sunday afternoon it was obvious she had become totally converted to Reiki. Mary asked me if she could give me a Reiki treatment and eventually after much pestering I agreed.
The first thing that I noticed was the intense heat emanating from Mary’s hands. Within minutes I could feel a wave of relaxation flowing through me and then a sensation of just floating.
At the end of the session I said to Mary “wow! I have to learn how to do this”.
A few weeks later it was my turn to meet the Rev. Beth Gray and I too quickly recognised her as an amazing lady. I was to learn that Beth was one of the original masters in the western world trained by Hawayo Takata, the first western master. I also learned from Beth that she had a background as a medical laboratory doctor. Her real love though was to follow the spiritual path hence her study and ordination as a minister.
Over the next two to three years Mary and I assisted at all of Beth’s Sydney seminars. Attending Beth’s seminars in this way increased our understanding and knowledge of this wonderful gift called Reiki.
I learned that Reiki is a means of bringing about a state of balance and harmony of the mind, body, spirit and emotions at all levels, and through all dimensions of the being. In turn this leads to a sense of inner peace and happiness resulting in the ability to more easily accept love and give out forgiveness. It enhances our knowledge and wisdom or understanding of the purity and perfection of the non-physical aspect of the universe.
Reiki as an energy force is simply a reflection of our true selves. The physical part of our body is comprised of trillions of microscopic cells, these cells are made up of atoms and sub atomic particles. The particles are created from the Universal energy system or as some would call the Matrix.
The Universal energy system is vital to the creation of all things and is thus called Life Force Energy. Over a period of four to five years Mary and I treated hundreds of people with problems ranging across the whole medical spectrum from cancer patients to heroin addicts.
In 1991 we were offered the opportunity to become Reiki (Masters) Teachers. We decided that with hundreds of successful client treatments behind us and of course with the benefit of having had Beth in our lives we were ready.
Our training to Master level was with Mackenzie Clay. Mackenzie had been trained in the lineage of Phyllis Furumoto, Hawayo Takata’s granddaughter.
Mary and I now have a combined history of over seventy years’ experience teaching Reiki to hundreds of people and of treating many thousands more. It is from this base that DIMENSIONAL Reiki was developed. The awakening to and understanding of Dimensional Reiki has led me to reflect on my life with Reiki thus far. How is Dimensional Reiki different from Usui Reiki you may ask, more about that later
UNRESOLVED EMOTIONAL CONFLICT
The purpose of this seminar is to outline the benefits of Reiki and then discuss what I perceive as being the additional benefits of Dimensional Reiki in regards to the prevention and treatment of health related problems and importantly how daily self-treatment with Dimensional Reiki can improve all other aspects of your life eg relationships, career and finances. At a spiritual level it creates a state of balance and harmony leading to a state of inner peace and happiness.
I will also present a model of where Reiki comes from, what it is and how it works.
Firstly though, it is important to understand the following statement.
Unresolved emotional conflict is the No 1 cause of and a major barrier to a permanent reversal of most disease states and a barrier to personal and spiritual development.
The amazing amount of work by the likes of Dr. Candice Pert PhD, Dr. Lydia Temoshok PhD, Dr. Bruce Lipton PhD, Louise L Hay and many others has gone a long way to establish the mind, body connection and of course Dr. Ryke-Geerd Hamer’s research gives us absolute proof. (See Appendix 1)
Candice Pert has explained in popular lectures around the world how emotions exist both as energy and matter in the vibratory receptors of every cell in the body.
Featured in “What the Bleep Do We Know”? Candice expounded on how the molecules of emotion colour our perception and hence our creation of reality, ideas covered more thoroughly in her book, “Molecules of Emotion, the Science behind Mind, Body Medicine”.
Lydia Temoshok, “The Type C connection: The Mind Body Links to Cancer and your Health”, has demonstrated that emotional factors can help determine our vulnerability or resistance to cancer. For over a decade, internationally acclaimed psychologist Lydia has been conducting research at the forefront of mind-body science.
Her conclusion is that a specific behavior pattern, which she calls “Type C”, may influence cancer risk and recovery.
Drawing on hundreds of patient interviews and case histories, she suggests that if we chronically repress needs and feelings we may eventually suffer psychological and physical ill effects. Our immune system may be weakened leaving us more vulnerable to disease. Dr Temoshok’s discoveries illustrate how we all have powerful allies against cancer for example - our own minds.
If we think about the last sentence this also means that our own minds can work against us. If someone thinks that their cancer is curable, they are right. If someone thinks their cancer is incurable they are right.
In his book The Biology of Belief, Dr Bruce Lipton PhD discusses the science of how thoughts control life. He presents stunning new scientific discoveries about the biochemical effects of the brain’s functioning which show that all the cells of the body are affected by your thoughts.
Through their research Dr Temoshok, Dr Pert, and Dr Lipton have pointed the way toward a completely new approach and radical change of thinking for medicine, what Dr Hamer calls “The New Medicine”. Their discoveries, including stress, emotions, thoughts and unresolved conflict as being responsible for the causation of disease, is not in itself new. Eastern and oriental philosophy has taught this for thousands of years, along with the many metaphysical teachers who have learned to utilise this ancient knowledge. I believe therefore, that the one vital component that must not be excluded from the total approach to any wellness and healing program is what I call, the higher consciousness factor.
What I mean by the higher consciousness factor, which incorporates the oneness theory, is the spirit-soul-subtle energy aspect. This is the non physical aspect of ourselves, it is about unconditional love for ourselves and others, which includes, forgiveness, acceptance, compassion, being non critical and non judgmental. When we understand and embrace the higher consciousness factor, we are able to dissolve the conflict which is causing the illness. On a much wider scale we can also help to reduce global conflict, wars and crime.
Louise L Hay is regarded as being one of the world leaders in the metaphysical causation and treatment of disease. Her book, “You Can Heal Your Life” is a best seller around the world. I was first introduced to Louise over twenty five years ago and it was she that got me started on the path of research into the mind-body connection of disease. She had herself successfully dealt with cancer yet what impressed me the most was her total conviction that if you deal with the mental causation, then it is possible to heal disease. Louise has proven this over and over again with thousands of her clients. The subsequent research work of Dr Hamer, (Appendix 1), is testimony to Louise’s long held convictions that mental thought patterns such as CRITICISM, ANGER, RESENTMENT and GUILT, which if left unresolved, will result in disease.
The work of Dr’s Temoshok, Pert, Lipton, Hamer and Louise Hay is just a sample of the growing amount of data that shows how thoughts and emotions can create disease. Unresolved emotional conflict plus negative beliefs disrupt our wellbeing at a non physical and physical level. This is where Reiki fits into the greater scheme of things.
A BLAST FROM THE PAST
So still wondering about "the what' and shortly before deciding to write this book I was sat in my garden meditating with Mindfullness Reiki. Normally I just focus on the energy emanating from my hands and the usual wave of relaxation that follows. As I approached the end of this particular session I became aware of my original Reiki Master the Rev Beth Gray standing beside me. I had been thinking about my own future in regards to Reiki and where to go with it. After twenty five years involvement with Reiki I felt it was time for a review. Beth spoke to me and said: “its time for Reiki people to focus more on the simplicity of Reiki and to understand the amazing gift that Reiki is. The essence of Reiki allows for personal and spiritual growth and opens the door to cosmic knowledge and wisdom. Reiki teachers need to concentrate more on balance and harmony at the non physical level; the physical will then take care of itself”.
This was one of the few occasions that I had had contact with Beth since her transition.
I sat there wondering momentarily whether this was my imagination. My doubts were answered when another one of my former spiritual teachers the Rev Margaret Dent appeared. Margaret was a medium and clairvoyant of great repute and was a well known Sydney celebrity with her own radio show. Margaret had taught me a great deal about life after death and had raised my awareness of my own psychic and clairvoyant abilities. Again I had had little contact with Margaret since her passing. Margaret simply said to me in her no nonsense manner, “Why are you doubting, I taught you about this type of contact years ago, listen”.
In the next few seconds as I tried to come to terms with what had happened another of my former teachers appeared, the Indian Guru and holy man Sai Baba.
I first became aware of Sai Baba through a Reiki friend Jackie Fitzgerald. Mary and I had been at Jackie’s home doing some group Reiki when I noticed a picture of Sai Baba on the wall. I asked Jackie who he was and she told me in great detail. I then read a number of books about Sai Baba and while I was fascinated by this man I did not become a follower. I then read an article about Sai Baba written by an eminent Sydney medical specialist. I thought if someone of this mans standing is so convinced of Sai Baba's abilities there must be something to it. I arranged to meet the Doctor and I was impressed with what he told me.
Sai Baba popped in and out of my life consistently over the next few months and gave me a lot of answers to a lot of questions. On one occasion I was planning a seminar on “unconditional love” prompted by Sai Baba. The night before the seminar I had asked him to help me with the seminar and he said he would.
During the seminar I was doing a process, taught to me by a Shaman, by which I sent love from my eyes to the third eye area of each of the seminar participants. As I began the process I became aware of a presence both around and within me; I also became aware of a few gasps and a few exclamations of “oh my God”. I had no idea what was going on until I completed the process. Someone asked, who was that and someone else said that was Sai Baba. It seemed that Sai had kept his word and had transfigured through me, which isn’t what I really intended. Every one of the forty or so people present saw him even though half of them had never heard of him.
Yet again I had not had any contact with Sai Baba for many years until that morning; He appeared after Beth and Margaret and simply said “remember to teach unconditional love”; which of course is what Reiki is really all about!
I mentioned what had happened to Mary and asked her what she thought. Mary was born with the gift of clairvoyance and has international recognition for her abilities at all levels of society, the corporate sector and throughout political circles. Within a minute or so she confirmed what had happened.
So using what I had been taught by Margaret and Beth I decided to contact Dr Usui. I asked him a simple question, how do you define Reiki? He replied, “Reiki is a means of improving the lives of people who use it. It is a gift from the higher realms. It comes with unconditional love. There is nothing required other than to accept it and use it. It is its simplicity that separates it from other healing systems. It works through love, harmony and acceptance. Reiki is guided by the source and is at the same time the source guiding itself”.
REIKI SYMBOLS ARE ANCIENT
There are numerous well written books plus thousands of websites about Reiki. Many of them seem to focus on the history of Reiki, how Reiki developed in the western world, the training of Reiki students and method of treatment.
In writing this book I have attempted to take a different approach (prompted by my former teachers) personally I am more interested in the true essence of Reiki. I believe that by understanding this essence ultimately leads us to what an amazing gift Reiki is.
It is almost unanimous amongst the world wide Reiki fraternity that a gentleman by the name of Dr Mikao Usui discovered or re-discovered a means of utilizing Universal Life Force Energy, which he named Reiki. It is important at this point that we acknowledge that Universal Life Force Energy goes back to infinity; there is nothing even remotely new about it.
What Dr Usui learned was that by using certain hand symbols in a particular way (called attunement) would dramatically increase the natural flow of Life Force Energy through the hands of the person being attuned.
One of the symbols used in Reiki is named Cho ku Rei. Dr Usui discovered Reiki in 1922? But the Cho ku Rei goes back much further than that. The Cho ku Rei can be found; I am informed, in Egyptian Hieroglyphics and in Maya Land. It is interesting that both the Mayans and the Pharaohs are believed to have had significant contact with extra terrestrials. It is believed by some researchers that the Mayans gained their incredible understanding of mathematics from extra terrestrials and likewise the Pharaohs their engineering knowledge. Does this raise the possibility that Reiki came from extra terrestrials? I guess it depends on whether you believe in ET’s?
The Cho ku Rei has been found being used in some pretty remote areas. A Reiki Teacher friend of mine, Dave, met up with a Shaman in a village in Papua New Guinea. Dave had been trying to explain Reiki to the Shaman without much success.
It seemed the Shaman used a hand held carved wooden doll, which he waved around when he was treating people. The doll only had one eye which was positioned in the centre of the doll’s forehead. After some time the Shaman turned his attention to Dave and removed the eye from the doll. On the back of the eye was drawn the Cho ku Rei. Dave asked the Shaman where he got the Reiki symbol from and the man simply pointed to the sky.
On another occasion my wife Mary was escorting a tour party along the Amazon in South America. As part of the trip they had arranged to stay overnight in a native village. The accommodation amounted to some very simply made bamboo huts. Built on stilts they had a roof a floor and walls that only went half way up the building. This particular tribe were of very small stature so the issue of privacy, as in half a wall, was not a problem for them.
Mary had arranged to meet with the village Shaman and he had simply given an indication that he would meet her and the group. The Shaman eventually arrived at midnight ready to take them out onto the river in a small boat. As they made their way to the river Mary was aware of “things” slithering past in the darkness, think Caimans (small crocodile) and Anacondas There was a purpose to this venture, or as I would describe it madness.
The purpose was to try and catch a glimpse of the legendry pink dolphins. As they drifted along Mary noticed the Shaman wave his hand over the water. He formed the Cho ku Rei symbol gave a low whistle and within seconds the boat was surrounded by pink dolphins, mission accomplished.
A little later the Shaman asked if he could carry out an initiation on the group, to which Mary agreed. As Mary watched she realised that the initiation was in fact a Reiki attunement. The only difference was that each person received a low whistle from the Shaman and each whistle had a different note.
Mary left the Amazon with no idea where or how the Shaman learned Reiki, if that is what he knew it as. She was even more intrigued as to how the ‘toothless” Shaman could whistle!
As I have already stated the history of Reiki and where the reiki symbols originated is to me less important than understanding the essence of Reiki.
TAKING A STEP BACK FROM REIKI
Let me go back to the early days of my involvement with Reiki. As previously mentioned I was attuned to Reiki 1 and 2 by Rev. Beth Gray, who was one of Hawayo Takata’s original twenty two masters. Beth used to say that Reiki is the key to many things. I assisted at many of Beth’s Australian seminars over a period of two to three years. As such I had the opportunity to have many private chats with Beth socially and informally. I remember once asking Beth what she meant by Reiki being the key to many things. Her answer was “to understand Reiki you have to step back from it”. She said it with a twinkle in her eye knowing full well that I had no idea what she meant. Then she looked at me and said meditate with Reiki and the answers will come.
So I followed Beth’s advice and meditated with Reiki and answers did come over the next twenty years or so.
Stepping back (but not away from) Reiki did indeed give me a greater perception and understanding of what Beth meant when she spoke about Reiki being the key to many things.
Stepping back from Reiki allowed me to explore all kinds of healing modalities some of them quite bizarre at the time but now looking back I realise that what you think is what you get. For example many years ago I met an Indonesian Shaman and over a period of time I trained him to Master level. Although I was never sure who was supposed to be teaching who. As I have always said we are all teachers and we are all students. Anyway I had had an unnatural bend in my arm for many years, the result of a serious accident. At the time we lived on a property surrounded by beef cattle and my Shaman friend picked up an old cow bone and gently stroked it up and down my arm. You guessed it, the immovable bend in my arm straightened out.
On another occasion I had been in the process of moving house and having picked up a box, which I discovered was too heavy too late. I felt a tearing in my back accompanied very soon after by intense pain. I did not have time to do much work on myself and put up with the pain and restricted mobility for a few days. I was then introduced to an aboriginal healer by a friend of mine. The aboriginal healer was accompanied by a Canadian dentist who he had befriended. They asked me to lay face down and the aboriginal healer began to stroke an eagle feather up and down my spine while at the same time the Canadian dentist played the didgeridoo also up and down my spine. Yes I did get that the right way round. Anyway, after a couple of minutes I realised that every cell in my body was vibrating and it felt amazing. Thirty minutes later I stood up and my back was feeling perfectly normal and I have not had any trouble with it since.
I also learned Neuro Linguistic Programming NLP and discovered a whole new way of helping people to resolve their phobias plus many other things.
I learned Hypnotherapy and discovered something called the critical faculty. The critical faculty is a line between the conscious and the sub conscious. In order to change anything at a conscious level a way must be found around the critical faculty. So for example if someone wanted to stop smoking, talking to them at a conscious level won’t work but a combination of NLP and hypnotherapy will bring about the change at a sub conscious level.
In more recent times I have looked at something called Emotional Freedom Technique EFT. EFT involves tapping with the fingers on certain points of the body while using words of acceptance of self. The results are amazing. Gary Craig who developed EFT says he does not know how it works or why it works. It has spread almost as fast as Reiki. Doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists with years of experience of treating clients testify to the amazing results obtained with EFT. Has EFT or any of the other things that I have mentioned been scientifically validated, no? Does anyone care, no? The techniques work and as a Hawaiian Shaman once said to me “whatever works is what is needed”, pretty simple philosophy and of course he was right.
So by stepping back from Reiki I realised that healing modalities such as the ones mentioned above rely on utilising the power of the mind and energy flows and being connected to higher consciousness (knowingly or unknowingly).
THE REIKI KEY
However, the real “Reiki key” came to me when I learned that Dr Hamer believed that there was a right time and a wrong time to attempt to heal someone. What he called hot and cold phases. Perhaps in relation to conventional approaches when treating cancer he is right and maybe even some of the other alternative therapies may fit into this category but I am not certain of this.
I went over and over what Dr Hamer had said regarding hot and cold phases. It was stuck in my head and I could not shift it. Then came the sudden realisation……… Reiki practitioners experience a phenomena relating to what they feel in their hands. For example the Reiki practitioner may experience heat or cold in their hands when giving Reiki to a client. The client may feel the opposite of what the practitioner is feeling. This difference in heat or cold sensations, I believe, fits in with Dr Hamer’s opinions on hot and cold phases. I personally believe that this in effect is the intelligence of higher consciousness at work organising the energy flows through the Reiki practitioner to fit the needs of the client. Like Gary Craig with his EFT, I cannot be certain that Reiki works in this way. What I do know, is that none of my cancer clients have ever had an adverse reaction to Reiki; no matter at what stage they were or when they were treated. As far as I am aware, none of the thousands of Reiki practitioner’s world wide have noticed any adverse reactions by their clients either. We can be certain, without a doubt, that if any one had suffered in any way as a result of a Reiki treatment the whole world would know.
VALIDATION OF REIKI
However there is an apparent desire by many people to scientifically validate Reiki? Does Reiki even need to be scientifically validated?
Reiki is being accepted in more and more hospitals and health centres world wide. It is utilised by doctors, nurses and other health professionals in growing numbers including organisations such as the Cancer Council. There are tens of thousands of testimonies as to the beneficial effects of Reiki, particularly in the “feel good” area. Reiki is already acceptable to the medical profession because it is non invasive, non diagnostic, and does no harm.
Rev. Beth Gray used to tell the story about the time representatives of the American Medical Association visited her treatment centre unannounced. Beth ran a free Reiki clinic occasionally, staffed by volunteer Reiki practitioners. Their clients were the homeless and the poor. On the day of the AMA visit there were some forty tables set up every one of them being fully utilised by clients and practitioners. The AMA representatives watched proceedings for some considerable time before asking Beth what was happening. Beth gave them an overview of Reiki and according to Beth their response was, “but they are not doing anything”. Beth replied yes they are they are giving them peace of mind. The AMA representatives left quite content that their territory was not under threat from Reiki.
THE PLACEBO EFFECT
When scientific studies are carried out it is customary to use what is called a placebo? The placebo is used as a measure against whatever is being tested. In reality nothing should change in the placebo group but very often the placebo produces similar if not better results than the product being tested. I believe that if all the trillions of dollars that have been spent over a period of decades could have been used to focus on the placebo effect most of our hospitals would be empty.
Are the benefits of Reiki a result of some kind of placebo effect?
It depends what is meant by the term placebo. As I have already mentioned, in scientific studies the placebo is supposed to have a nil effect. When the placebo produces something positive it is disregarded, firstly because it is not in the best interests of the people paying for the study, secondly it cannot be explained in scientific terms, or can it?
Anyone who has ever treated animals with Reiki knows that they sense the energy flow very quickly. In some cases they may give a quizzical look at whoever is treating them but then they usually get a glazed look in their eyes, relax and totally enjoy the experience. More importantly they are more than happy to come back for more. In scientific terms you cannot fool animals with placebos. I can assure you something quite positive is happening when Reiki is used. (Speaking as someone who has given Reiki to a Tiger organised and by courtesy of my daughter…I think she loves me.)
REIKI AND EMOTIONAL CONFLICT
Conventional medicine believes that disease begins at a biological level.
In terms of the metaphysical causation of disease it is believed that disease is the end result of unresolved emotional conflict. This is to say that negative, hostile, angry thoughts, words and actions, and hanging on to past hurts etc. have a negative impact and disrupt the body’s energy flow. This in effect causes an electrical short circuit, which in turn causes a disruption to the body’s homeostatic state on the physical level. The mechanism is as follows:
THOUGHTS, WORDS AND ACTIONS COME TO US IN NEUTRAL IT IS HOW WE REACT TO THEM THAT DETERMINES THE OUTCOME. IF WE REACT IN A POSITIVE WAY WE GET A POSITIVE OUTCOME, AT THE CAUSAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL LEVELS.
IF WE REACT IN A NEGATIVE WAY AND ARE UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AT THE TIME THIS CAUSES A DISRUPTION OF THE ENERGY FLOW TO THE CHAKRAS, MERIDIANS AND THE NADIS.
WHICH WILL THEN DISRUPT THE HOMEOSTATIC STATE AT THE PHYSICAL LEVEL THROUGH THE NERVE PLEXUS’S OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND THE ENDOCRINE GLANDS OF THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM.
THE OTHER IMPORTANT FACTOR THAT NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERED IS THE MULTI DIMENSIONAL
ASPECT INVOLVED IN THE CAUSATION AND TREATMENT OF DISEASE.
So let us look at the above mechanism a little closer. Until relatively recent times the knowledge and understanding of our physical body having a non physical counterpart and its relationship to our health and well being, was based mainly on the teachings of Eastern and Oriental philosophy.
The invisible parts most often referred to as having a direct influence on health and wellness being the chakras (energy points) and meridians (energy channels). The other important part of this system but less often discussed being the nadis.
It appears that there are in excess of 360 chakra points throughout the body. Those that are regarded as the seven major chakras interestingly correspond with the glands of the endocrine system and the major nerve plexuses of the nervous system. The meridians follow the path of the vascular system and lymphatic system but are independent of either.
The nadis is an identical replica of and underlies the nervous system. Eastern and Oriental philosophy teaches that our physical body has multi dimensional counterparts known as outer subtle bodies. These subtle bodies being the etheric, astral, mental, causal and out to higher spiritual energies. Each of these outer subtle bodies is in a sense a replica of the physical body and each contains their own chakra system etc.
To understand Reiki’s role in the healing process we need to look at the interaction of the body systems and the non physical energy flow.
First let us remind ourselves that, unresolved emotional conflict is the No 1 cause of and a major barrier to a permanent reversal of most disease states. There are of course other factors to consider such as pollution and diet etc. However these are things that you can deal with much easier. Dissolving emotional conflict requires outside help.
Unresolved emotional conflicts can better be described as sub conscious toxic emotions. These toxic emotions are caused by anger, guilt, fear and depression and they affect the immune system, the digestive system, the circulatory system, the nervous system and the hormonal system. These systems all interact with each other instantaneously and therefore are all affected by negative thoughts, words and actions. Disease states are systemic and while it may appear that only one organ of the body is affected in reality every cell in our body is affected.
Toxic emotions are repressed and stored in the body systems and the sub conscious and at the multi dimensional levels. This is why treating the symptoms of disease at a physical level can only ever be a band aid solution. Any kind of treatment for disease must address the cause on all levels.
There are a number of modalities that can help to release toxic emotions. However, based on my own experience of over thirty years working with Reiki, in comparison with other modalities that I have used, Reiki is the number one medium for dealing with toxic emotions at ALL levels including the multi dimensional levels.
Reiki works at the causal level, mental level and emotional level to bring about a vibrational resonance throughout the entire body system (physical and non physical) leading to homeostasis (balance and harmony) at the physical level.
Reiki originates from higher consciousness or the source of all that is, as does everything else. Reiki is from a dimensional level of pure energy. Some Native Americans call this dimension the place where the perfect cow lives. However, I am not certain why they chose the cow as a symbol of purity and perfection. It may be something lost in translation; for instance the Sioux regard the White Buffalo as sacred. There is a legend about the White Buffalo Calf Woman which tells how the people lost the ability to communicate with the creator. The creator sent the sacred White Buffalo Calf Woman to teach the people to pray with the peace pipe. She also gave seven sacred ceremonies for the people to live by in order to ensure a future with harmony, peace and balance, which is also what Reiki is about, harmony, peace and balance.
Reiki per se does not actually heal any specific disease; rather it creates the environment for healing to take place by restoring the flow of pure life force energy. Research shows that during a Reiki treatment, the recipient enters a deeply relaxed state and experiences brain wave patterns in the Alpha, Theta, and Delta range. Further research has shown that the body’s healing ability is greatly enhanced when in these altered state. (See Schumann and Judith Pennington.)
So in answer to my question do we need scientific validation for Reiki, I find myself left with another question. What are we actually validating and how do we go about it.
The problems that I see with scientific studies to date tend to focus on what happens at a biological level. Obviously in terms of producing science based evidence in support of Reiki this is the ultimate aim. While some studies have shown improvements in haemoglobin and hematocrit values and immune system markers and reduction in salivary cortisol levels; this does not give us a true picture of what is happening. Most studies are carried out over a relative short period of time. Let us remind ourselves that ALL healing begins at the non-physical level. The way that Reiki works is to bring about a state of balance and harmony at this non-physical level which cascades down to the physical level to create a state of homeostasis so that the body can heal itself. This whole process can take time. So even though the healing process has commenced at the non-physical level it may not register immediately at the physical level. I am aware that in some cases healing can occur very quickly; but from my observations of the studies in order to scientifically validate Reiki I believe that monitoring the effects of Reiki should be carried out over longer periods of time.
Dr Mikao Usui is acknowledged as the man who developed the system of Reiki. I have read and heard many stories about Dr Usui over the last twenty years, some of them conflicting. There is, however, one story with which I feel comfortable. Dr Usui is purported to have said that he believed that Reiki was about acquiring spiritual harmony and that any healing benefits were a bonus. It is also reported that Dr Hayashi, one of Dr Usui’s students, believed the opposite in so much as he thought that Reiki was about healing and the spiritual benefits were secondary.
My own personal feelings are that they are both right. Reiki is without a doubt a great tool for those wishing to find a more spiritual purpose in life. It is about inner peace, balance and harmony. It is also true that long term, permanent healing can only come about when there exists a state of balance at both the physical and non physical level.
A FEW CASE HISTORIES
Reiki was used in the operating room of the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Centre in New York City. The ‘New York Times’ magazine, reported about the use of Reiki during open heart and heart transplant surgery performed by Dr. Mehmet Oz. None of the 11 heart patients treated with Reiki by Julie Motz (Reiki Master) experienced the usual postoperative depression, the bypass patients had no postoperative pain or leg weakness and the transplant patients experienced no organ rejection.
This particular result is of special interest to Mary and me. Many years ago we had trained a lady to Reiki 2 level. This lady was an operating theatre nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia. At the time she was working alongside cardiac surgeon, Dr Victor Chan, who was leading the heart transplant program. We had discussed the problem of organ rejection and Mary and I suggested that much of the problem was perhaps due to the difference in the vibratory resonance of the organ donor and the recipient. Our Reiki nurse put this to Dr Chan and his response was one of interest. Mary and I had arranged to meet with Dr Chan to discuss how we could test our theory. The meeting never took place because Dr Chan was tragically assassinated. In view of the findings by Dr Oz in regard to ‘no organ rejection’ when using Reiki; maybe our theory about vibratory resonance was and is correct after all.
Case 1
Many years ago Mary and I were traveling through Goulburn, New South Wales. It was lunch time and we had decided to grab a quick sandwich. While we were waiting to be served, a man entered the shop and within a minute he had collapsed at our feet. I immediately went into ‘clinical mode’ and asked someone to call an ambulance. I took the man’s pulse, checked his respiratory rate, noted his skin colour, his complaint of chest pain and then went into a standard methodical questioning routine. My preliminary thoughts were that we were dealing with a suspected myocardial infarction (heart attack). As I did not have any equipment with me, I mentally hoped the ambulance would arrive before the man went into cardiac arrest.
As I continued to observe the man I noticed that his pulse rate had normalised, his skin colour had returned and that, in his words the pain had gone. It was then that I realised that Mary had her hands on the man’s shoulders and had in fact been in Reiki mode almost from the time the man had hit the floor. By the time the ambulance arrived the man had decided that he was okay and that he just wanted to go home. He was of course persuaded to go to hospital for further assessment.
Case 2
I have always believed that for healing of any kind to be effective, the patient has to accept some responsibility for their own healing and show some commitment to or have faith in the treatment. Therefore, I made it a point that anyone who wanted me to treat them, actually had to make the effort to come to me. However, one day I received a phone call from a friend of someone who was possibly in need of our help. He went on to say, that his friend was incapacitated, lived in a secluded area and that it would be impossible for him to get to us. The man seemed genuine and I relaxed my rule. When we first met John his friend had been correct. John was unable to walk more than a couple of steps due to spinal and hip joint problems. The intensity of the pain was evident by the fact that his doctor had to gain special permission from the local health department to oversubscribe his pain relief medication. John, who was in his seventies, also had glaucoma, a hearing aid and heart problems.
John, a scientist and physicist of repute, had reached such a mental state, due to his pain, disablement and his feelings of lack of any further value; that he had become a member of the euthanasia society and was ‘looking for a way out’. As the story unwound Mary and I looked at each other and exchanged the thought, ‘what have we got into now’. We placed John on our portable treatment table and almost instantly I noticed that his eyes were rolling, his pulse was erratic with series of missed beats. This can often indicate impending cardiac arrest due to what is known as ectopic beats which can lead to ventricular fibrillation. The conventional treatment would have been electrical defibrillation and drugs, of which we had neither. We were in the middle of acreage with no telephone (before mobile phones) and the nearest village was miles away. At least we had the reassurance of John’s first words, ‘I don’t know anything about what you do, and I have been told it will help me so I am WILLING to try’.
John did not go into cardiac arrest that day and some twelve weeks and a lot of Reiki later John was driving his car, digging his garden and his glaucoma had gone. He had somehow ‘lost’ his hearing aid and after a few tantrums discovered that he did not need it anyway. He also found a new purpose in life. His doctor who was fully aware of what we were doing had been able to gradually reduce John’s pain medication to nil. Eventually, our left brain, logical thinking scientist became attuned to Reiki by Mary, as did his Doctor. The last I heard of John was that he was still going strong as he approached the age of eighty.
Case 3
In the early days of our involvement with Reiki, Mary, a few of our Reiki friends and I would get together for group therapy work. We were coming to the end of one of these sessions one evening when there was a knock on the door. I opened the door to find a young lady in obvious distress, clutching her stomach and quite clearly in great pain. After inviting her in she told us that she had already visited three naturopaths who had all diagnosed acute appendicitis and all had advised her to go to hospital. I has seen this condition many times and I also felt that the best place for her was hospital, and quickly. She told us that she would have nothing to do with doctors or hospitals. Despite our insistence that this was a serious medical condition, she declared that if we would not help her, she would keep looking until she found someone who would. In desperation, I told her that if she did not go to hospital immediately then she could possibly die in the street. Her answer was, “I will die in the street then”. Once again my clinical training was in conflict with Reiki, but it seemed that we had no choice other than to treat this lady. I reasoned that if ‘worse came to worse’ and she became unconscious, we could then legally take her to hospital for her own good.
At the end of the treatment her pain had diminished somewhat, some colour had returned to her face but the abdominal rigidity was still present. She left after promising to return for further treatment the next day. I spent a sleepless night hoping that she would make it back. I need not have worried, following a further two treatments by Mary she was perfectly okay, with no ill effects. The next time we heard from this lady she still had her appendix and was married to…… a doctor!!!
Case 4
Round about the same time as our ‘appendix lady’ we were asked to treat another lady. This time the hospital had diagnosed cancer of the colon. This particular lady was reluctant to undergo conventional treatment. Her doctors had told her that she had six weeks to decide. We agreed to treat her for six weeks on the understanding that she would then return to her doctor for further assessment. She promised that she would.
Six weeks later the medical tests proved negative, no cancer. The reason given was that the original tests ‘must have been inaccurate’. We believe otherwise.
Case 5
One evening I answered a knock on the door. I opened the door to find a friend of ours, Ron Davis, Ron was also a Reiki practitioner. Standing beside Ron was a man who just oozed the most hostile, angry, negative energy I had ever encountered. He glared at me and said I am only here because he, nodding towards Ron, brought me. I don’t think you can help me”. I replied by saying if that is what you think then you may as well leave, good bye and I closed the door.
A few minutes later there was another knock on the door. I opened the door and it was Ron still accompanied by the stranger. The man still full of hostility said “Ron wants me to try it”.
I looked at Ron who gave me a wink and I invited them in. It turned out that this man was a former concert pianist, his current problem being widespread arthritis, especially in his fingers. This explained his resentment and bitterness.
The man was so afflicted by his arthritis that he could not get onto our treatment table by himself. Mary and Ron and I had to physically lift him.
We treated him for about one hour and when we had finished we helped him off the table. He left with Ron and just a mumbled agreement to return the following week.
When the man returned for his second treatment there was a notable change in his attitude. He was a little more polite and he managed to get onto the treatment table unaided.
When he returned for his third treatment he was holding a large chocolate cake and announced “this might be nice for us with coffee later”. He looked ten years younger, the lines had gone from his face and thankfully he had lost his anger and hostility. He proudly showed us his hands and opened and closed his fingers. He then took a deep breath and announced that he had been able to play the piano again for the first time in five years.
Following his third treatment we did all join in and demolish the chocolate cake. We told him that he need not come back for another treatment. He said “I think you are right I feel fantastic now” Mary and I had an immediate feeling of satisfaction until the man continued on by saying “but I don’t think it has anything to do with what you have done”. The lesson here is do not use Reiki to boost your ego nor let the ego get in the way of helping people.
The above is just a small handful of the hundreds of cases that Mary and I have had success with relating to physical problems; albeit with a predisposing unresolved emotional conflict. In addition Mary has had amazing success with hundreds of clients relating to what appear at face value to be straight out emotional problems. For example, relationship problems – heterosexual and same sex couples, self worth problems – prostitutes and heroin addicts as well as the whole gambit of stress related problems plus medically related problems.
There have also been cases which from an evidence based scientific perspective cannot be explained. I accept it would be difficult for those not familiar with energy therapy to understand how a profoundly deaf lady with a high pitched, screeching hearing aid suddenly found that she could hear quite well without the aid during a Reiki Seminar that I was giving; or how a man with an embarrassing stammer suddenly lost his stammer during another seminar that I was giving.
While it may appear that Reiki can “fix” anything this is not true and no one should ever make that claim. I will repeat all healing commences at the non-physical level. Reiki originates from the non-physical level. Unresolved emotional conflict, the cause of all dis-ease, is in effect stuck at the non-physical level. Reiki creates the environment for healing to take place at the physical, emotional and mental level by “unsticking” the emotional conflict. Once the emotional conflict is resolved the body will return to a state of homeostasis and heal.
My favourite Reiki moment, however, came about during a medical advisory committee meeting that I was attending. One of the Doctors arrived for the meeting with his head held at a strange angle. He told us he had awoken like that and he could not fix it. None of the other 14 or so medical specialists present seemed eager to help him. So I offered to help him and amid their humorous but sarcastic comments I placed my hands on his neck and told him to relax. Ten minutes later and in front of my amused but cynical audience my reluctant patient said, “That was amazing” as he rolled his head around without discomfort.
I offered to teach them Reiki, but there were no takers.
Some months later I did conduct a Reiki seminar in another part of the state exclusively for medical practitioners and they loved it; although, none of my fellow committee members attended.
For those who can only see things in black and white, trying to understand Reiki is a bit like trying to understand the origins of the earth and the infinity of the universe.
THE BIG BANG THEORY
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.” Einstein.
Reiki is a part of the mysterious.
Despite the opinion held by many scientists that the origins of intelligent life on earth were the result of some Big Bang theory, I cannot agree. We are asked to believe that first there was nothing, and then out of the nothingness something exploded sending debris hurtling through space at the speed of light. This debris then became planets such as Earth, the Sun, and the Moon etc. Interestingly the Sun and the Moon are in exactly the right place to support life on Earth and the earth rotates at the right speed and at the correct angle. That all of this just happened by chance stretches the imagination to say the least.
However to even think that a human cell and subsequently the whole of life form of all species and all the different types of species, not to mention the difference in racial features and colour, just happened by chance is the stuff that Hollywood Sci Fi movies are made from.
Even today with our science and technology we still know relatively little about how the human cell actually works. The thousands of chemical reactions that take place in one single cell per day multiplied by the trillions of cells in one body are greater than all of the industrial chemical plants in the world. Every function and every action that takes place in any living species is carried out with absolute precision. It is carried out with intelligence. It does not happen by chance.
All of the theories about the origins of the planets and life are just that, theories.
Why is it that conventional scientists have so much difficulty in even considering the possibility of an intelligent creative force elsewhere in the Universe or in some parallel Universe? I guess because if you cannot see it then it does not exist. We cannot see thoughts but they exist (I think).
For thousands of years Eastern and Oriental philosophy has taught that everything that we see in our physical world is an illusion. Some modern day physicists are telling us the same thing. Modern technology allows scientists to go beyond the atom to sub atomic particles and beyond to things called photons.
At the level of the photon scientists know that the photon can disappear and then reappear by alternating between waves of energy and particles. That is it changes from matter to energy and from energy to matter, which is basically what Einstein was talking about all those years ago. It seems then that all of creation originates from energy. This is the energy that we know as Universal Life Force Energy. What many scientists also tell us is that this energy has intelligence and knows itself.
As matter is everywhere, then it follows that energy is everywhere, an energy that has intelligence and knows itself. This energy then is everywhere and is everything, which means that it does not need anything because it already has everything. In fact an energy source that can become anything it wants to simply by knowing that it can.
This sounds like one of those radio programs, which increases the prize money by 5 dollars every day and drives everybody nuts for weeks, until someone answers the question. What am I?
In terms of energy healing such as the use of Reiki, this is where the healing actually takes place. As I mentioned earlier healing has to be effected through higher consciousness at a dimensional level to have a permanent effect. This dimensional healing then manifests in the physical body via the photons to the cells and to the organs and incorporates the meridians, chakras and nadis.
To repeat, all photons and therefore all matter come from the same source which is energy. This forms the basis for the Oneness Theory which says that all things are connected. You are energy, so clearly you are part of the One. As we are all energy, then everyone and everything is part of the One and we are all part of each other. This really is the hard part to digest.
How do you get on with your mother-in-law?
For those of you who are still cynical about this oneness stuff, maybe the following will help to make it easier to accept. In scientific terms the oneness theory is referred to as non-locality, proven by physicist Alain Aspect, in 1982. Leading a team of researchers at the University of Paris, Alain Aspect showed that two photons moving away from each other communicated at speeds which went against Einstein’s theory that no information can travel faster than light. Aspect’s theory proved that the particles are non-locally connected; meaning that the distance between them is an illusion. Since the idea of anything travelling faster than light suggests breaking the time barrier many physicists simply tried to explain away Aspect’s findings.
However, physicist David Bohm believes Aspects findings suggest that objective reality as we understand does not exist. Does this begin to sound like the ancient teachings? David Bohm hypothesizes that subatomic particles are able to remain in contact with one another irrespective of the distance between them not because they are sending messages back and forth but because their apparent separation is an illusion.
Simply by allowing what you have just read to become a possibility or an option in your mind will set you on a path to major change.
Let us just recap for a moment. The energy that I spoke about is everywhere so it doesn’t need to go anywhere. It is everything and therefore it needs nothing. Because it is everywhere and everything, it is all knowledge and all wisdom. It is non critical and non judgemental. It is unconditional love, compassionate, caring and giving. It has no beginning and has no end; it just is. We need then to rethink our understanding of what reality is. If we accept the non-locality theory then everything in the universe is infinitely connected. In terms of peace of mind and happiness, the interconnectedness of everything has great significance. Being one with all that is therefore gives us access to all the knowledge and wisdom that ever was, is and ever will be.
Reiki is a part of and originates from this amazing energy.
Despite having learned and tried many other therapy modalities.
I still believe that Reiki is an amazing gift from the universe. It is an easy and effective way to connect to the source of all that is. When we connect to the source we place ourselves in the middle of a continuous flow of energy; an energy of unconditional love, compassion and forgiveness. I firmly believe that we are part of something greater than our physicality and that Reiki is our access to that something.
DIMENSIONAL REIKI
So following thirty-five years years of involvement with Reiki, what next?
It became increasingly apparent to me over a period of many years that Reiki was, in my opinion, losing its way. I refer back to what I said earlier about Dr Usui believing that Reiki was about our spiritual development and that any healing was a bonus.
It seems that in the western world we are now more interested in the Dr Hayashi philosophy that Reiki is about healing and that spiritual development is secondary.
In a sense Dr Usui and Dr Hayashi are both correct it depends on where your own personal interests lay.
We know that our physical existence is limited in duration. It seems to me then that we should focus to some degree on what happens after physicality. I mentioned earlier about the visitations in spirit from some of my previous teachers with their insights and I have also mentioned my experiences with many other teachers.
Gradually the concept of Dimensional Reiki emerged. I should emphasise that Dimensional Reiki is not another ‘type’ of Reiki, Dimensional Reiki is based on Usui Reiki but is presented and practiced in a different way that encompasses the philosophy of both Dr Usui and Dr Hayashi.
Dimensional Reiki is about stepping into oneness with the source of all creation. It takes you through time and space on a journey of personal empowerment and self-healing.
Dimensional Reiki merges the atomic structure of your physical body, your energy body, your space body and your dimensional body in a wave of unconditional love.
Dimensional Reiki activates your dimensionally conscious heart, which impacts in a positive way on your brain and then your nervous system and endocrine system.
The greater our connection with the creative forces within and around us the more harmoniously our mental, emotional and physical systems function and the better our sense of wellbeing is. Connecting with the infinite source of wisdom and creativity leads to greater compassion, love and awareness of our deep connection with all that is.
When we fail to achieve the outcomes we want in life it is a common practice for many to blame others for their situation. When we blame others we are in effect cutting off our access to the ‘Dimensional Heart’. The dimensional heart is your connection to your true nature, which is the unconditional love, wisdom and power within you.
Dimensional Reiki connects to the dimensional heart which is your pathway to releasing unresolved emotional conflict the cause of most of life’s problems, particularly health problems.
Recognising and understanding the dimensional aspects of ourselves allows us to leap forward and achieve whatever it is that we want to achieve.
THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES OF HUNA
Many years ago I had the honour and privilege of doing some personal study with Dr Serge Kahili King PhD, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Dr King is a master teacher of Huna, the author of many books and an excellent lecturer and teacher.
I mention the ancient philosophy of Huna here because I believe the seven principles of Huna greatly enhance the benefits of Dimensional Reiki. Together they provide a basis for a better understanding of the interaction between Mind, Body, Spirit and perhaps a better way of thinking and living our lives.
While different Huna teachers may present the principles in various ways, the following summary describes the principles as taught and practiced by the Order of Huna International.
Dr. Serge Kahili King Phd
1. The world is what you think it is.
This is the cornerstone principle of Huna and it means that you create your own personal experience of reality through your beliefs, expectations, attitudes, desires, fears, judgements, feelings and consistent or persistent thoughts and actions. This principle also contains the idea that by changing your thinking you can change your world.
2. There are no limits.
There are no real boundaries between you and your body, you and other people, you and the world and you and God. Any divisions used for discussion are terms of function and convenience. In other words, separation is only a useful illusion. An additional meaning of this principle is that there are unlimited potentials for creativity. You can create in some form or another anything you can conceive.
3. Energy flows where attention goes.
The thoughts and feelings that you dwell on, in full awareness or not, form the blueprint for bringing into your life the nearest available equivalent experience to those same thoughts and feelings. Directed attention is the channel for the flow of biological as well as cosmic energy.
4. Now is the moment of power.
You are not bound by any experience of the past, nor by any perception of the future. You have the power in the present moment to change limiting beliefs and consciously plant the seed for a future of your choosing. As you change your mind you change your experience and as there is no real power outside of you, for God is within; you are free to the degree that you realise this and act upon it.
5. To love is to be happy with.
The universe exists because of love, in its two aspects of being and becoming. Human beings exist because of love, even when they don’t acknowledge it. When they do acknowledge love, they are happy as they are and happy in becoming more. In Huna, love involves the creation of happiness. It is not just a side effect. Everything works better, is better, when this principle is followed consciously. For very practical reasons, then, love is the only ethic needed in Huna.
6. All power comes from within.
As mentioned above, there is no power outside of you because the power of God or the Universe works through you in your life. You are the active channel for that power; your choices and decisions direct it. No other person can have power over you or your destiny unless you decide to let him or her have it.
7. Effectiveness is the measure of truth.
In an infinite universe, which Huna postulates, there cannot be an absolute truth. Instead there must be an effective truth at an individual level of consciousness. This principle is an utterly practical one which allows you to organise and act upon information in the most suitable way for the purpose at hand, so that “facts” do not get in the way of effectiveness. Any organisation or system of knowledge is seen as convenient, not factual, because a different organisation of the same knowledge could be just as valid for other purposes. Another way of saying this is that all systems are arbitrary, so feel free to use what works.
When we practice Dimensional Reiki alongside the principles of Huna we are harnessing powerful positive forces to enhance our wellbeing.
Please note Dimensional Reiki as developed by Mike and Mary Shaw is only taught by them personally or by their approved trainers.
Specific training in Huna is conducted by Dr Serge Kahili King PhD.

A final word from Albert Einstein.
"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us – universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." Einstein
And a final word from me, if you want to really know what unconditional love is ASK A DOG. (except if it has just had a swim).

APPENDIX 1
Psychosomatic Therapy (psyche = mind; soma = body) is the theory that there are psychological and emotional factors involved in both the onset and healing of cancer and other diseases.
One of the most mind blowing (pardon the pun) studies that has been carried out on psychosomatic cancer therapy comes from Germany. Over many years Dr. Ryke-Geerd Hamer, has examined more than 40,000 patients suffering from all types of cancer and other disease states. Importantly he realised that ALL of his patients had one thing in common – they had all undergone some kind of psycho emotional conflict prior to the onset of their disease and significantly a conflict that had not been totally resolved.
Now here is the amazing bit, Computed Tomography (CT) taken of his patient’s brains showed, in all cases, a shadow in some area of the brain. The shadow would be in exactly the same location in the brain for the same type of cancer for example. What is even more fascinating is that there was a 100% correlation between the location of the shadow on the brain, the type of cancer in the body and the particular type of unresolved conflict.
Essentially what Dr. Hamer has discovered is absolute proof of the mind-body connection. By proof I mean that he has confirmed, in more than 40,000 case studies since 1981, that a biological conflict creates a sequence of events that simultaneously affect the psyche, brain and organ. What’s more, he discovered that specific kinds of conflicts created specific disease states such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, leukaemia, eczema, psoriasis, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, asthma, heart disease, diabetes and hypoglycaemia. The list goes on. He is able to confirm this on the emotional level (the actual conflict), the physical level (the disease manifestation), and on the brain level (confirmed by CAT scan also known as a CT of the brain). He learned to detect this by observing the brain relays and how they appear on a CT (computerised tomography).
He also discovered that the exact nature of the conflict predetermined which part of the brain and specifically which brain relay and correlating tissue or organ would be affected.
How did Dr. Hamer come to these conclusions? Most holistic practitioners accepted the mind, body connection but it had never been proved to the satisfaction of modern science.
Dr. Hamer’s research began officially in the university hospital in Munich where he was chief internist at the cancer clinic. He himself was recovering from cancer of the testes and instinctively felt that its occurrence was somehow related to a very dramatic event in his life.
That event was the death of his son Dirk who had been shot by the Italian Crown Prince of the House of Savoy. At this cancer clinic he was able to interview all the patients with reproductive organ cancers and discovered that they had all had very similar dramatic events in their lives prior to the diagnosis of their disease. That’s when he found that these specific kinds of conflicts created specific kinds of cancers in the body. What exactly does he mean by conflicts? Everyone has conflict and everyone has stress in his or her life. The actual conflict, Dr. Hamer found, had to be what he calls biological in nature.
A biological conflict as opposed to a psychological conflict is a very primal response to an event in a person’s life that completely catches them off guard.
These biological conflicts can involve a separation from a loved one, a territorial loss, a self-devaluation, a profound fear; a fight over something that we believe rightfully belongs to us, injuries inflicted through accidents or harsh words, or even a fear for our lives or the life of a loved one. The list goes on. These biological responses, he found, were pre-programmed into our brains and are responsible for creating most of the disease states we are familiar with today.
Most astounding is the fact that Dr. Hamer’s research is empirical and each case can be confirmed on three levels – the psyche, the brain and the organ.
Dr. Hamer’s research has certainly laid new foundations in the understanding of medicine today, whether it is natural or allopathic. He has uncovered the true nature of illness and made total sense of it. He has found the key to both good health and disease and has laid the groundwork for correctly handling the patient so that he or she can recover with the least amount of stress. Incredible as it may seem, by helping the patient get in touch with the conflict which is responsible for the illness, further progress of the disease can be controlled.
In support of Dr Hamer is the Reno Integrative Medical Centre, Nevada, US.
They have this to say:
“The most impressive model of understanding about cancer and most other disease that we have discovered is that of Geert Hamer (MD) of Germany. His ideas are absolutely revolutionary regarding the nature of cancer and provide an opportunity for each of those afflicted to recontextualize their cancer experience and optimize their recovery.
In the spring of 2006 we set out to prove that Dr. Hamer’s assertions regarding cancer (and most other disease) were incorrect. After having received some initial training and applying these concepts to our patients for several months we were confronted with an abundant amount of empirical evidence supporting Hamer’s ideas. Our most basic assumptions regarding cancer had been incorrect! This paradigm turns conventional medicine and even much of alternative medicine on its head, but once an understanding of the process is grasped, it points the way in terms of choosing various diagnostic or therapeutic interventions”.
As a result of my research into Dr Hamer’s work I decided to study his German New Medicine in order to better understand the mind body connection in regards to unresolved conflicts.
With over thirty years of Reiki experience behind me I have no doubt that Dimensional Reiki is a powerful tool in resolving emotional/biological conflict.
